Overview of Idea

"Our Reality" will be a website that features short documentaries about teen/young mothers at The Care Center, offering glimpses into their lives. Using their words and images from their daily lives, we will provide them with a platform to amplify their voices, in order to share their stories.

The Specifics: What will the $3,000 fund?

For the past 5 years, Holyoke, MA has seen the highest teen pregnancy rate in the entire state. The Care Center, an alternative ed program, works with pregnant/parenting teens who have dropped out of high school. Despite not following a traditional path & facing more challenges than the average teen, these students have the drive, hunger for knowledge, & capacity to succeed. These young women also have stories to tell-their own.
We will produce at least 4-6 videos, each around 5 minutes. The money will fund the website that will host the video vignettes, & pay for all associated costs to start it & keep it running. The funds will also be used for travel, equipment & editing.
