Little Rock Stories
5

Overview of Idea

We believe that neighborhood stories have the power to change Little Rock. We want people to share experiences and connect with others, strengthening ties across the city and showing what their neighborhoods need to thrive. The stories will help our larger initiative to build community resilience.

The Specifics: What will the $3,000 fund?

We will collect neighborhood stories in Little Rock through:
- Individual interviews
- Community meetings
- Connecting with neighborhood coalitions

We want the stories to be heard by GOOD and its readers as well as people across our city. We will enable people to share their stories however they chose, including:
- Print publications
- Podcasts
- Videos
- Public forums
- Art exhibits

In addition to purchasing the materials necessary for sharing the stories, we will also spend the money on:
- Local food for meetings/events
- Flyers/outreach for community meetings/events
- Reserving meeting/event space
- Cameras or voice recorders to allow people to record their own stories

Our video features people around town explaining which Little Rock neighborhood story that they'd like to be able to share. We'd love to know which Little Rock story YOU would like to tell or to hear told once this project gets started. Please let us know in the comments, and we'll make sure your story becomes part of our collected effort. I'd like to share my story about playing epic, and sometimes even bloody, games of capture the flag covering the entire block I grew up on.

I am happy to support groups that are encouraging communications within the greater communities of Little Rock. Such an important part of breaking down community barriers that have developed over time. Gerald Cound

This idea is one that will help bind and heal divisions among various parts of Little Rock. We'll all hear stories that will teach what living in community is all about.

Once you win here, you should franchise this idea. GOOD can take it all over the U.S.!

people first! this is good stuff. too many government and corporate decisions are based on numbers not people. this looks like a shot at turning that around and looking at how decisions fit the narrative that people in little rock are trying to write for themselves.

What excites me about this idea is that it is completely community driven. The people working on the project are honest about not yet having all the answers. In fact, that's the whole point! They will ask people all over Little Rock what they want to see strengthened or preserved in their communities, and then they'll start making those changes happen! Every aspect of the project will be determined by the needs and desires of those involved, right down to how the stories are told. I can't wait to hear the stories and to see what unfolds as a result of their sharing, especially because I know that Little Rock could really use a project like this!

I love that this is more than just a one-time storytelling event, but rather will shape transformational action in LR. Ready to be a part of this effort for local social change!

It seems like the whole idea is people and community-centered, down to utilizing whatever medium works best for these stories to be heard, which, of course, is wonderful

Nice idea to gather stories from across the entire city rather than one specific group. This project will be an interesting illustration of differences between individuals within a community.

Excellent idea. We all have stories to tell and what better way for all the people of Little Rock to see how much they have in common and how they can work with each other.
