These videos are so important to TWLOHA and our audience because storytelling is an essential part of what do we. The "Story of" allows us to put a face to the issues so many struggle with. We only make a few videos a year because of the cost associated with filming. The $3,000 from GOOD would allow us to film two videos for this series by covering the cost of a videographer, equipment, travel expenses and location fees for a two day shoot.

We will use these stories to teach rural communities about the importance of basic nutrition, water purification, first aid, and preventative healthcare, and to train more community health promoters. $3000 will cover the costs of: • Transportation for workshop participants, • A hands-free camcorder/tripod/microphone for filming, • A small stipend for a film student to record and edit the stories, and • Several portable, battery-operated projectors for easy sharing. Basic health education is essential to creating sustainable healthcare solutions in rural and developing communities. The Colombian government has invited Happy Post to visit three villages affected by decades of armed conflict. With this grant, we can meet people directly impacted by the conflict, spread happiness in their communities, showcase their stories, and ultimately inspire lasting change. We have three goals. First, we’ll collect and deliver messages of support from the global Happy Post community to soldiers and civilians in conflict areas. Second, we’ll ask them to share their stories and perspectives of happiness. Finally, we’ll create a short documentary to share this experience. This project can be funded with this $3,000 grant, which will be used for flights, video equipment, production costs, and happiness workshops in each village.

Film is the best tool to tell a story. As a group of international artists from different mediums, theatre, design, music, dance and film we have created a movement where we share our experiences to create a collective vision of artistry. We believe art and culture can change and unite the world. The fund will allow us to buy the necessary materials for the play and the video to be made. That will include the renting of lights and equipment for media storage and the initial preproduction of the video. We will join together in VueltaBajo Theatre company in Barcelona for this production.

We will collect neighborhood stories in Little Rock through: - Individual interviews - Community meetings - Connecting with neighborhood coalitions We want the stories to be heard by GOOD and its readers as well as people across our city. We will enable people to share their stories however they chose, including: - Print publications - Podcasts - Videos - Public forums - Art exhibits In addition to purchasing the materials necessary for sharing the stories, we will also spend the money on: - Local food for meetings/events - Flyers/outreach for community meetings/events - Reserving meeting/event space - Cameras or voice recorders to allow people to record their own stories

The $3,000 will be used to cover the costs associated with implementing a digital storytelling program at the national level. At our summer conference in Spartanburg, South Carolina, we plan to train staff and students from 30 member campuses on storytelling techniques. Using these new-found skills, member campuses will be able to launch digital storytelling projects in communities across the country. More specifically, these funds will be used to purchase video equipment, develop training webinars, and provide chapters with the resources necessary to effectively communicate the power of alternative breaks. These short films will serve as powerful tools for engaging outside audiences in the social issues these programs address.

For the past 5 years, Holyoke, MA has seen the highest teen pregnancy rate in the entire state. The Care Center, an alternative ed program, works with pregnant/parenting teens who have dropped out of high school. Despite not following a traditional path & facing more challenges than the average teen, these students have the drive, hunger for knowledge, & capacity to succeed. These young women also have stories to tell-their own. We will produce at least 4-6 videos, each around 5 minutes. The money will fund the website that will host the video vignettes, & pay for all associated costs to start it & keep it running. The funds will also be used for travel, equipment & editing.

This $3,000 will help fund our film production. We just returned from a 3-week shoot to get the kids backstories of poverty & hope in Uganda. Then we filmed their flight to America and their 1st week & 1st US concert. Over their yearlong tour we will film the kids experiencing many more firsts such as snow, elevators & singing with music legends such as Dierks Bentley and Broadway's The Lion King. We will also capture the children's transformation as they are educated & given a chance to shine. The Westerners who meet the Choir will have their eyes & hearts opened to both the need & beauty of Africa's most vulnerable kids. Finally, we'll return to Uganda w/the kids at end of tour and witness as they begin to make Uganda better!

We create Blogologues along different topics, and this summer we would like to mount a full run with a Tech theme. $3,000 pays for a 45-seat NYC theater for six performances; the remainder of the funds will go towards projections, costumes, props, and stipends for our cast and creative team. This version will encompass all things related to how our modern world communicates (text exchanges, dating profiles, missed connections, etc.). We also plan to crowdsource a post to perform, in an effort to further bridge the gap between blogger, audience, and actor. We hope to inspire audiences to reclaim face-to-face, human connection, and we believe that comedy is the ideal way to unite strangers in a shared experience.

With this financial support, we will buy professional grade cameras and sound equipment so that our video quality improves. We also hope to purchase editing software, fund transportation to locations and support distribution costs. It is our greatest hope that in the future, we can create a full feature documentary of our local stories so that our local residents and others can learn more about the injustices occurring.

The $3,000 will be used to host “Stories of the Forgotten Birthdays”, a fundraising event for Beverly's Birthdays, a non-profit organization that provides birthday celebrations to homeless youth living in transitional shelters in the Pittsburgh region. The event will showcase a video documentary (created through the use of the funds) that draws attention to the issue of childhood homelessness and highlights the services that Beverly’s Birthdays provides. Birthday party recipients will be featured on the video and they will share their stories. It is our hope that this event will raise awareness as well as funds so that Beverly’s Birthdays can provide birthday celebrations for all youth living in transitional shelters in Pittsburgh.

Alan Turing played a significant role in decoding German ciphers during WWII and is widely considered to be the founder of modern computer science, but in 1952 he was arrested in the UK for being gay. At a time when the rights of LGBT people are being highlighted in local and national policy, it is important to keep the dialogue open, and as a choreographer I am committed to using dance as a vehicle for education and social justice. I will gather artists and activists to create a performance that will intertwine the stories of past and present, and engage the broader community in a discussion of policy, art, and history. $3,000 will be used for rehearsal/performance space, publicity, set/costumes, lighting, compensating performers.

Mileage, lodging, expenses and probably a partial performance fee. I will research which elementary schools in south Texas (San Antonio to border) meet the 90/90/90 formula as defined by Dr. Sean Kearney, TAMU-SA. I will contact them and schedule a date with nine of them to provide 2 - 3 storytelling sessions in their school library. (By storytelling, I do not mean reading books aloud, rather the live delivery of traditional folktales, fairy tales, legends, ghost stories, etc. in the oral narrative tradition, human to human.) Oral storytelling promotes literacy and language skills as well as cultural understanding and insight; it stimulates imagination, compassion, and higher order thinking as part of a rich, shared experience.

We hope to foster a productive dialogue that can address ways to combat stigmas and societal attitudes that we believe are harmful both to survivors of sexual violence and abuse, and to society as a whole. 1) $1,000 to maintain our website and towards setting up the proper resources for victims of abuse to access to help prevent sexual violence 2) $1,000 will be distributed amongst our team of outreach workers that will be going into their communities to help set-up and engage in activities and workshops geared toward raising awareness against sexual violence 3) $1,000 will go towards publicity and promoting the awareness of our site/program to share the stories and expressive arts of all of all of our victims, survivors and guest speakers.

Using teams of volunteers with hand-held cameras, bcWORKSHOP (a nonprofit community design center) has collected more than 200 stories from people representing over 40 Dallas neighborhoods in the last four months. The $3,000 grant will supplement bcWORKSHOP's ongoing effort by funding: 1- Upgrades to our sound equipment, significantly improving the audio quality of our interviews. 2- The design and build of a modular interview booth. This mobile booth will permit us to bring the project to Dallas's 300+ neighborhoods and create a visual identity for the project. 3- The design of an online database. This publicly accessible, continually evolving collection of stories will enable users to explore and learn about our city's neighborhoods.

For the past two years, project founder and director Benita Cooper has been using her own funds and her team of 40 volunteers to sustain the class and support the blog. With demand for our content and program growing, we have been working to develop an all-new story-sharing website. This website will allow anyone in the world to implement our program while customizing it to the seniors or teens in their community. Through this online vehicle, senior groups can upload stories, teen groups can upload responses, and the remainder of the community can browse this ever-growing collection of stories and discussions, and cheer on our seniors’ and our teens’ shared voices. The $3,000 would fund a significant portion of this site development!

This book will be published through FirstSteps Press, a non-profit publishing house that creates well-researched and well-designed materials for newly arriving refugees. $3000 would help cover the remaining Arabic translation costs as well as printing costs. Copies of the book will be sold as close to cost as possible and distributed to American volunteers who are paired with newly arriving Iraqi refugees. This will ensure refugees are well-supported and truly welcomed from the moment they arrive in the United States and that volunteers are equipped to reach out and welcome refugees as their new neighbors.

RA provides a platform for education, advocacy, discussion & social action through provocative storytelling by way of film screenings, video, art events & a variety of other artistic collaborations. It’s our mission to help nonprofits, NGOs, documentarians & artists increase their visibility & mobilize their work to create real change with real stories, confronting social issues of all kinds. The $3000 would pay for initial equipment needed (i.e. projector, screen & sound system) for our first project which focuses on maternal & child health in the US. The $ will also help with the costs of building a networking website that would connect people, communities & change-makers to make positive shifts toward a more just and sustainable world.

This book series contains 12 books discussing various challenges kids face through the post divorce process & 12 parent companion books to wake these parents up & help them see what their behavior is doing tho their kids. Frankly, it not only affects the child's development but also affects the entire community (classrooms, work environments, courtrooms, gossip mills, etc) 3 of the books are finished but we need to complete the other 9. We also created a non-profit, plan be, Inc., which has a purpose of donating books & other therapeutic tools to divorce education groups, school counselors, therapists, churches, libraries, etc. Proceeds from book sales & our community came together to help fund this organization. Hopefully, GOOD will too!

The $3,000 will be utilized for general expenses relating to the event from securing storytellers to producing marketing materials. The following objectives are anticipated... • Families, children, and teachers will experience a playful and joyful encounter with stories and professional, nationally-acclaimed storytellers. • Children will experience the rare, but valuable interaction as they listen and participate with the activity of storytelling. • Teachers, local storytellers and other adults will gain expertise in their own storytelling and perpetuate the skills and special connections provided by the art of storytelling. • Middle school students will engage with a storytelling project and provide a stage for them to tell their stories.
